***Goodbye Peru?*** June 30, 2008

I’m very sad to report I foundout today that Peru changed there adoption requirements (I believe last week).

Peru no longer adopts children under 5 years old to non Peruvian-American Families. 

As of today, in Peru, we would be elligible for children 5 and up.  We were planning on adopting a toddler. 

I’m sure once we have our child(ren) we will be blissfully happy, but right now we have to re-evaluate how we picture our family, and possibly find a new path.

Our PA criminal background forms are in route back to PA. Wooo Hooo.. 

I have confirmed that all our personal reference letters have been received… So we can check something else off our list. 

Now we wait… to get confirmation that we will be attending the July 17th & 18th classes.

I just thought the picture below of a Llama Crossing was neat… I keep thinking about Peru!

 

 

 

**Criminal background check update June 23, 2008

We got a letter in the mail over the weekend from CHSFS. PA requires their own form to be filled out for their background check. (we lived in PA for a couple years) So we filled out two forms with extensive information on where we have lived and who we have lived with and I put it in the mail today back to CHSFS. They will mail it to PA and our criminal background check continues.

It would have been easier if we hadn’t lived in 3 states in the last 5 years or so. I’m hoping this won’t delay our classes any further.

**class update** June 19, 2008

I advised CHSFS that we wished to attend the adoption class in July (ASAP).  Our criminal background checks are almost completed and since they haven’t found anything (SURPRISE!) they felt okay signing us up for July.  We will not know officially if we are in the July classes for another 10 days or so.   So we wait…

I hear in the adoption classes we will be assigned and meet with out social worker, be giving our next set of “Homework” (which I believe includes Essays we have to write), and learn more about the adoption process and Peru’s program.   

I can’t wait to get things moving along.  I know we are still at least 1.5 years out but every step we make gets us a little closer…. Even if they are only baby steps.

I spoke with CHSFS today and they are still waiting for our Criminal Background checks to come back.  The June adoption classes we had hoped to get into next week are full so we will have to try for the July ones now..     They are also still waiting on one more referral letter to be sent in.

So we wait…
